Tennis-Elbow-curesTennis elbow, also known as golfer’s elbow, is an injury of the tendonitis that is connected to the elbow and it can be a painful injury that makes it hard to do many activities, especially sports. The tendonitis associated with your elbow gets inflamed by the overuse of the muscles of the forearm. Despite the injury’s name, this condition isn’t commonly related to just tennis players – it’s usually caused by injury to that area.

SYMPTOMS

Symptoms of Tennis Elbow is usually pain 2 centimeters below the bony part of the outside of the elbow which is technically called the lateral epicondyle – because of this, it’s likely to also feel weak in the wrist and it will be difficult to do simple tasks such as shaking hands or opening any kind of door.

Also, if you press below the lateral epicondyle on the outside of the elbow while trying to extend or straighten your hands and fingers, pain will usually occur.

TREATMENTS AT HOME

Of course, rest is the number one thing you can do to help with this type of injury. It’s important to not do any straining activities that involve your arm with the current injury. Do not grip things, open heavy doors, or use tools. Applying ice to the elbow up for 15 minutes a days about 6 times a day will help reduce inflammation.

There are also many tennis elbow braces that you can buy online to that help the injury. These are usually worn around the forearm to help support the tendon heal. The brace helps apply compression around the upper arm and it changes the direction of the forces through the tendon to reduce strain on the part that is hurt. Make sure to apply it correctly to have it work effectively.

EXERCISES

There are certain exercises that help stretch and strengthen the area of the injury, but these should be done after resting your elbow for awhile. The most important type of exercises for this is wrist extension ones that aim to gradually increase the load through the tendon so it can cope with that is being demanded of the area. Finger extensions, ball squeezes, eccentric stretches with band, wrist supination and manual stretching are all recommended exercises. Of course, it’s important that you do not overdue it.

Some professional therapist will apply electrotherapy to help with the symptoms. This involves applying many different types of energy to the soft tissues around the area to reduce pain. Some researchers do not recommend this.
